A Day for Rugby with ACT Veterans Rugby club in Canberra

Date: February 16, 2024

Location: Portsea Oval, RMC Duntroon

Last Friday, the ACT Veterans Rugby club kicked off their 2024 season with a special event at Portsea Oval—the Clare Holland House Charity Match. This annual game is more than just rugby; it’s about coming together as a community to support a good cause.

The ACT Veterans Rugby club is made up of rugby enthusiasts aged over 35 from Canberra and surrounding areas. They not only enjoy playing rugby but also believe in giving back to the community. Over the years, they have donated over $700,000 to various charities, including Legacy, Canberra Hospital Foundation, and the Heart Foundation.

This year, the focus was on supporting Palliative Care ACT, specifically to support our Clare Holland House volunteers. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors like Canberra Communications, the Vets were able to donate over $2,500 to help Palliative Care ACT continue their important work. Canberra Communications, a local business specialising in audiovisual and electrical services, has been a steadfast supporter of many different causes in the ACT.

The Clare Holland House Charity Match is a day filled with enthusiasm on the field and goodwill off the field. It’s a chance for rugby fans and supporters of all ages to come together and make a difference in the lives of others.

Linda Hansen and Dr Louise Mayo AM from Palliative Care ACT attended the game and expressed their gratitude for the donation. Their presence highlighted the impact of community support on the work of Palliative Care ACT and its services in Canberra. PCACT is Thankful for the Canberra communications and ACT Veterans Rugby club for their donations, we look forward to next year’s game.
